TOOTH EXTACTION

EXTRACTIONS

Sometimes we get the unfortunate news that we need to get a tooth removed, also
known as an extraction.

At Malaga Dental clinic we aim to avoid extractions, as we believe the retention of
your natural teeth is nearly always the better option.

However, some of the reasons a tooth may require an extraction could be:

  • Extensive damage to a tooth through trauma or decay.
  • Severe gum disease due to poor oral health resulting in damaging the surrounding
    bone.
  • Teeth with no function where the bite and chewing maybe improved if removed.

Can You Tell Me About Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

Wisdom teeth extractions are routine procedures that are done in cases where the wisdom teeth don’t have enough room to come through. Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars that don’t break through until you are in your teens or early adult years.

Most people do not have enough room in their mouth for their wisdom teeth. When this occurs, the teeth can become impacted. This can lead to severe pain and infection. It can also lead to your jawbone or other teeth becoming damaged.

In most cases, our dentist will be able to remove the teeth at our office. If your wisdom teeth are still trapped underneath your gums and close to the jaw nerve, you will probably be referred to an oral surgeon.

Our dentists will make sure that you are in the most comfortable state during any xtractions by using local anaesthetic, and if required oral or intravenous sedation.
